MATH 008A
Lecture (5 units) Covers functions and their graphs, including linear an polynomial functions, zeroes, and inverse functions as well as exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions and their inverses. Also includes counting, including elementary probability. Involves applications to the natural sciences and engineering.

You are eligible to take the Math 8A Bridge if you tested into Math 8A. You may need to take the Mathematics Advisory Exam to determine your placement.

MATH 005P (1 unit)
Mathematics Support Practicum Offered in Summer Bridge only Insures understanding of traditional course content and additionally develops analytic and problem solving skills. Assists students with an introduction to university life by exposing them to test taking techniques, effective note taking strategies, time management, and university procedures and practices. Graded Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC). Offered in Summer Bridge only.
Introduction to University Life Offered in Summer Bridge only Helps students succeed in their transition from high school to the expectations of a research university by:
- Introducing strategies for self-motivation, goal setting, and communication with peers and professors.
- Providing first-hand exposure to campus resources and support services.
- Teaching college-level study skills such as time management, exam prep, note taking, and analytical reading.
- Encouraging responsible independence in both personal and academic life.
IUL is led by teaching assistants who are extensively trained to help new students with the broad range of issues that may arise in the transition to college life.
